Are you a green consumer?

Do environmental decisions influence your buying behaviour? For a long time we’ve seen a range of green products come to market and there’s huge growth in some areas like organic food. Some people make a point of not buying from certain companies based on their environmental behaviour. So for example recently there’s been a flurry of calls to boycott BP in the US, after the massive oil spill. The Facebook page Boycott BP, started by a videographer in Louisiana with no campaigning experience, now has over 650,000 supporters. The power of social media!

And what about positive buying. A group in the US called www.carrotmob.com (so named because they use carrots rather than sticks to motivate behaviour change) organises consumers to all go to a certain store based on that stores commitment to spend the extra income on green upgrades like energy efficiency.  Check out their site for some great videos on their success.

What about you? Are you a green conscious consumer and do you think it makes an impact?

Tell me what you think.
