Coal Crash Coming?

The coal industry is feeling very confident about its future. With prices high and global demand booming, it sees nothing but opportunity ahead. But industries often get their forecasts wrong. A former Chairman of IBM forecast the global market for computers was about five (yes, that’s five computers)! The Chairman and Founder of one of the USA’s pioneering computer companies said in 1977 that “there is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.”

Has the coal industry also got it wrong? The International Energy Agency this week released its annual forecasts and said what a stable climate would mean for the coal industry’s future. It’s scary stuff for investors. You can read my full views on the topic on my website here. What do you think?
